About the Englehart & District Horticultural Society

The Englehart & District Horticultural Society was formed in 1956 and has been bringing gardeners together in our community for generations. What began as a shared interest in growing plants has grown into a place where knowledge, experience, and a love of gardening are passed along year after year.

We are a community-based group made up of gardeners of all experience levels. Some of us have been gardening for decades. Others are just getting started. What we share is curiosity, a willingness to learn, and an appreciation for the role gardening plays in our lives and in our town.

Throughout the year, we focus on practical gardening knowledge, seasonal learning, and community connection. Our activities may include guest speakers, workshops, plant sales, and a few social gatherings that give members the chance to learn from one another and enjoy good company. We also support civic improvement, youth involvement, and environmental stewardship whenever possible.

Gardening is always changing, especially in a northern climate. New challenges, new ideas, and new approaches keep things interesting. As a society, we believe in adapting, sharing what works, and learning from what doesn’t. No one is expected to know everything. Questions are welcome, and experience is shared freely.

Most importantly, the society is about people. Friendships form over conversations about soil, weather, plants, and the occasional gardening mishap. Knowledge is exchanged, encouragement is given, and the sense of community continues to grow alongside our gardens.

Whether you garden in a large yard, a small space, or a few pots on a porch, you are welcome here. The Englehart & District Horticultural Society exists to support, inspire, and connect gardeners in our area — season after season.

We meet the first and third wednesday of most months, and there is a monthly bulletin to keep everyone in the loop.
